Apellicon of Teos was a historical figure known for acquiring the library of works originating from Theophrastus. However, out of fear, he kept these works hidden underground, causing their near-destruction. These nearly lost manuscripts were only salvaged through the efforts of Cicero, Tyrannio the Elder and Tyrannio the Younger. Despite their rescue, Apellicon's transcriptions were of poor quality due to the manuscripts' poor condition, which included water and moth damage.
